I have got accustomed to hearing this and more. Oh yes! I totally agree.
I was complimented thus because I stuck my neck out and decided not to toe the line. Yes I dare to be different and do so proudly. All this principally because I gave up a steady secure Government job and took premature retirement.
No one said I was weird when I joined the armed forces as a medical officer when several of my male classmates chickened out.
But then, I never did stick to convention!
Up until the point that I did my postgraduation in Anaesthesiology and then trained in Paediatric Anaesthesia, it was all great. The family was taken aback when I declared I wanted to do my Masters in Hindustani Music. But why??? Haven't you done enough? Look after your home instead of investing so much time and energy in things  that aren't important (Excuse Me!).
I decided to do Pranic Healing which was compared to Voodoo, the list continues....
In all this, I learnt one thing. If you really want something and believe you can do it, no one can stop you.
If there are more such "weird" and "crazy" people out there who love being different and have dreams they dare to fulfill, what are you waiting for? Let's all dare to do the things we want to and contribute towards making  the world a happier place to be in.
