Looking Back The little girl who rode her Dad’s shoulders Was happy and carefree as a toddler But then, she started being told right from wrong As she grew and the path of life she trudged on. Insecurities and under confidence grew as she learned there were things she couldn’t but her brother could do. It was not for her to question why That’s the way it’s always been so why cry? Walk Into The Sunset As I walk into the sunset And reflect on the life gone by, There are moments that are treasured Many a low and highs. As I walk into the sunset And think of the roles I’ve played, A daughter first and then a friend Honest and not easily swayed. Friends I made aplenty Some stayed and some lost along the way, Each dear to my heart and remembered In their very special way. Losing a parent in my early teens I set myself a goal which seemed farfetched indeed. I had to join the Navy as that’s where Dad had been, I donned the white uniform with a sense of purpose and duty I was sure that Dad watching from above would be proud at my sense of loyalty. As I walk into the sunset and on my judgements I reflect, What a misplaced sense of duty as He was long gone and it wouldn’t matter to him I suspect. Reflections Don't you feel me in the morning breeze? It's me who whispers as I brush past your cheeks. Feel me child as I surround you with love I am with you, not in some heaven above. Sit in stillness and tarry a while, I dance with joy everytime you smile. My child, my love for you knows no bounds, Look with some insight, I am all around.
